The German Screen Studies Network website provides an online platform for debate on German-language screen culture.

The GSSN website is a great example of KDL's capabilities in creating simple and polished designs that effectively communicate an academic brand identity. The design is minimalist and helps to convey the project rationale whilst hinting at the strong arthouse heritage of German cinema.

KDL's user experience and interaction designers created several versions of logos and layouts for consideration, and the final look and feel was selected by, and refined with the research team.

KDL’s team provided carefully considered designs for a new logo that reflected the GSSN’s purpose and enhanced its visual identity. It was clear from the initial presentation onwards that Ginestra Ferraro and Tiffany Ong had successfully interpreted our aspirations.

GSSN was a great opportunity to stretch our creative muscles and consider the aesthetics of the subject matter as integral to the final design

The German Screen Studies Network is an international research and discussion network of academics, students, film practitioners, teachers and others who share an interest in and love of German-language film. With funding from the DAAD, the German Screen Studies Network was able to invest in 2015 in the development of a website to raise the GSSN’s profile and support its sustainability beyond the funding period. For this project we engaged King’s Digital Laboratory as our expert partner. KDL’s scoping team quickly understood our requirements and provided significant help in developing our ideas to achieve a website that was attractive to the visitor and structurally sustainable. KDL’s team provided carefully considered designs for a new logo that reflected the GSSN’s purpose and enhanced its visual identity. It was clear from the initial presentation onwards that Ginestra Ferraro and Tiffany Ong had successfully interpreted our aspirations. We were kept informed throughout the design process and the team responded promptly to changes we requested along the way. We recently launched the website and have received many favourable comments from users; this in itself is testimony of the strength of the design. We’re delighted with the collaboration with KDL, and hope very much to be able to build on it for future projects, including a planned major research project on expanded film heritage.
